This glass collection is comprised of turtledoves, which I believe are one of the symbols of Istanbul.
Turtledoves are known for the fact that they are inseparable couples, so when I created them I juxtaposed modern and simple forms with traditional patterns and techniques. In these birds you can see ‘reflections of Istanbul’ through different design effects. I wanted to emphasize the togetherness of tradition and modernity, which at first glance seem contradictory.
With this collection I let fly ‘Istanbul’s Turtledoves’ from the past to the present. Selected for exhibition at the WCC-’European Prize for Applied Arts’ in 2009.
Prize winner at the ‘Camgeran’ glass design competition in 2010 at the Eskisehir Glass Museum.
This glass collection was produced using glass blowing techniques at the non-profit foundation The Glass Furnace / Istanbul.
